"This is avery basic introduction to Geology. If you have any background in Earth Science, you'l fend this book too basic. If your just interested in scratching the surface of geologic processes then this is the book to have. I felt the questions at the end of each section a bit simplistic, even childish. It is not the book for serious study of geologic processes."

Geology A SelfTeaching Guide Barbara W Murck 9780471385905 Books Reviews

  • Great basic geology book. Not for the advanced student, but for someone with only basic geology knowledge, it fits the bill perfectly. You won't come away being able to identify minerals, but you will get a basic understanding of how they are formed and transformed
  • Absolutely horrible text. Thank goodness for google or I would be failing my course. If your class requires this text, pick a different class if you can...you're not going to learn a lot using this book.
  • My son is using this alongside his geology class in homeschool high school and really has learned a lot with it (in conjunction with his Connect the Thoughts geology curriculum). The price is great for a homeschool text book too!`
  • A reader-friendly geology reference book for hard copy or electronic personal libraries. Mine is the e-version residing on my which is very useful when taking field trips or just as a quick reference when traveling. Does not require advanced knowledge of Geology to navigate or understand the material presented. Excellent for a gift for science oriented audience.
  • I read this in a version and now I know I will want to order a hard copy to park on my reference Shelf for future review
  • This is avery basic introduction to Geology. If you have any background in Earth Science, you'l fend this book too basic. If your just interested in scratching the surface of geologic processes then this is the book to have. I felt the questions at the end of each section a bit simplistic, even childish. It is not the book for serious study of geologic processes.
  • I bought both the kindle and print versions. The graphics in the copy are very poor and it is very difficult to go back and reread portions. Geology has changed a great deal in the last 3-4 decades and this book allowed me to update my knowledge and remind me of things that I have forgotten. I was surprised how effective the book was in transmitting knowledge. You don't have to be a scientist or engineer to read this book. It will give you an appreciation of the geological world that surrounds us. If you buy a copy, get the print edition, it will be a better experience.
  • If you have a self motivated learner or need a simple course for a high school student to get a grasp on basic geology and beyond this is the book. I will be looking at others in this series.
