Finding Stevie is a dark and poignant true story that highlights the dangers lurking on online.
When Stevie’s social worker tells Cathy, an experienced foster carer, that Stevie, 14, is gender fluid she isn’t sure what that term means and looks it up.
Stevie, together with his younger brother and sister, have been brought up by their grandparents as their mother is in prison. But the grandparents can no longer cope with Stevie’s behaviour so they place him in care.
Stevie is exploring his gender identity, and like many young people he spends time online. Cathy warns him about the dangers of talking to strangers online and advises him how to stay safe. - I have read all Cathy Glass' foster care memoirs. I enjoyed this one, as it deals with a child who has gender identity issues, something she has not encountered before. Also the book deals with the dangers of the internet and how a child or teen can get into serious trouble there, especially if not monitored. This is a big problem everywhere. I like the fact that in this memoir, Cathy's family plays a larger part- I enjoy hearing what Lucy, Paula and Adrian are up to and they seem to have grown into smart caring individuals. I hope Cathy continues to write more of these memoirs. Good luck to all the Stevies out there.Sympathy on the loss of a dear father, Cathy.
- Another brilliant book from Cathy Glass. I don't want to give away anything about the story, but this boy's journey is very different from anything I have read about before. The book has lots of twists and turns and is written from Cathy's warm, very loving but honest perspective. I just loved every minute. Congratulations on another great book and best of luck to Stevie.
- This book was amazing and so well written. At times it was heart wrenching, happy then frustrating. Cathy Glass is a true blessing to all the children she fosters. I can't wait to read more of her books.
